The Galiano Project is about making sound improvements in your child and your community!
Your rental instrument is designed with the beginner in mind. It is crafted to be forgiving for beginners. Even if your child only wants to play in school orchestra, they will technically outgrow that instrument, struggling to master more difficult technique, and ultimately becoming dissatisfied. Most honor Orchestra participants have upgraded their instrument at least once before they take their first audition.

The Galiano 2 Series

Harkening back to the famous Markneukirchen, Germany workshops of the 1900s, the Galiano Series 2 instruments are hand carved under the supervision of master violinmakers at Eastman Strings. These instruments have an open, bright sound with solid projection. The tone, playability, and a rich antique finish make this a terrific choice for the advancing player.

The Galiano 4 Series
The quality of the Galiano 4 Series allows the player increased flexibility in clearly executing technical passages. Additionally, with hand-carved instruments, players may find it easier to apply nuanced details and color to expressive passages.Each 4 series Galiano begins with premium tonewoods. Next, each aspect of it’s making – carving, fitting together all of the pieces, gluing, purfling inlay, and finishing is carefully supervised by the master luthiers in the EASTMAN STRINGS workshop. An instrument’s varnish has great influence on its performance and sound. Centuries old recipes and technique are used to apply multiple layer varnish. The special varnish process used on the 4 Series comes from the early 20th century Markneukirchen German workshops. This results in an instrument of unmatched appearance and sound.

The Galiano 6 Series
The finest luthiers collaborate to create this signature model. Every instrument is tuned and refined individually to create the ultimate tone. Translucent varnish is modeled after the finest instruments from the Golden Age of violin making. A truly special instrument for the passionate performer.
The 6 Series combines all the benefits of master luthiers’ plate tuning techniques with a special German- style multi-layer shaded spirit varnish. This results in a modestly priced master instrument with outstanding projection, tone color, and playability, not to mention beautiful flamed maple and premium spruce, enhanced by the luminous hand-applied varnish. The player will notice the aged wood for its complex sound and flexibility for advanced, nuanced playing.

The Galiano 8 Series

The Galiano Series 8 represents an exceptional level of handcrafted mastery. These instruments are handcrafted in Germany using a time-honored workshop-method tradition. These superior instruments are made of aged wood to achieve an attractive warmer sound. Our German luthiers use highly flamed maple paired with straight grained spruce and deep colored varnish in order to create an exciting, old-world appearance. The sound projects as rounder than other newer instruments due to the older wood, almost as if they have been broken in by years of advanced performing.
